What El Paso Security Guards Actually Carry in Their Duty Bag

Every shift teaches you something — usually that you forgot something. After outfitting hundreds of guards across El Paso and West Texas, here is the duty-bag checklist our customers swear by.

The non-negotiables

  • Duty belt setup: a rigid duty belt, your holster, cuff case, OC spray pouch, and a flashlight ring. If it rides on your belt, it should be retention-rated and drawn by muscle memory.
  • Handcuffs + key: two pairs is the pro move — one on the belt, one in the bag.
  • Flashlight: a high-output handheld light plus a backup. Desert nights and dark stairwells don't wait.
  • Gloves: search gloves for pat-downs and a warm pair for winter posts.
  • Rain shell: El Paso weather turns fast. A packable rain jacket lives in the bag, not the closet.

The things rookies forget

  • Spare batteries for your light — dead gear is decoration.
  • A basic first-aid pouch. You're often first on scene.
  • Water and a snack. Twelve-hour posts are real.
  • A pen and a small notepad. Reports write themselves when the details are fresh.

Build it once, check it weekly

Set a five-minute gear check every Sunday: batteries, cuffs, spray expiration, boot laces. The bag that gets checked is the bag that saves the shift.

Need to fill the gaps? Our duty gear collection has everything above, and our security guard starter kits bundle it at a better price.
